“MBI has a long tradition of creating high levels of return on your membership investment and going into 2025, this commitment has not waivered.” – Chad Kleppe, President and CEO

On behalf of the MBI Board of Directors and professional staff, we are proud to present to you MBI’s 2024 Annual Report. Within the following pages and various videos, you will see all that MBI accomplished this past year. We will share how MBI remained focused on advancing Iowa’s commercial building industry through Advocacy; Education; and Resources all while we staying true to our Core Values of being Engaged Professionals in Service to Others. I could not be more proud of what we accomplished this year and am so excited to see what 2025 has in store for this industry.

As we look forward to 2025, please know that MBI remains committed to bringing members high quality programs, great networking opportunities and a variety of member exclusive benefits that bring value to the membership proposal. MBI has a long tradition of creating high levels of return on your membership investment and going into 2025, this commitment has not waivered.

The year 2025 marks the closing of one strategic plan and sets forth with the preparations of another. For the last three years, MBI has been working through a plan that resulted in an array of major accomplishments. One major area of focus was workforce. Here we strived to expand efforts to attract and retain individuals who are wanting to build a career in construction. This created an array of new services and programs that helped to move the needle on workforce challenges. New services include an array of retention tools available on MBI’s website, as well as outreach to connect contractors to students. We also enhanced the reach of our job board in which members can post open positions. In addition, we created a reverse job board where interested candidates can upload their credentials for members to search. The goal here is to create a pool of applicants that only members have access.

Another area of focus from the strategic plan is the leadership role MBI took in being the go to resource on CM at Risk delivery. In this capacity, MBI shared information with members, owners and designers alike with the intention of ensuring this new procurement delivery option was being utilized correctly and to the benefit of the Iowa taxpayer. Through our efforts, MBI presented to multiple groups and provided insights on CM@R through a retained consultant.

MBI’s stature as a leader in professional development has never been stronger as a result of our efforts through this strategic plan. Our educational programming remains a very popular choice of the membership as enrollment numbers have never been higher.  Member firms rely on MBI to assist in building leaders and highly skilled individuals who are able to contribute each and every day to make their companies and employers better.

Another key product of the strategic plan was the efforts to enhance MBI’s brand. This particular goal challenged MBI to do a better job of outreach to an ever changing membership base. Through this directive, MBI created new programming like our MBI-Edge podcast, The Breakfast Club, young professional series as well as an intern program. These are just a few examples of how MBI worked to bring more members together, be it face to face events or shared communications outlets. We are confident that the level of engagement amongst members and construction colleagues has never been higher as a result of these efforts.

With the current strategic plan coming to a close, we are now ramping up the efforts to identify new areas of focus that will set this industry up for the next decade. Already we are in the process of developing surveys and focus groups to identify data points and areas of interest to better understand needed services and how to shape programming necessary for the next generation of construction leadership. As we usher in a new era of construction, we will retool our existing offerings to better align with future needs. Likewise, we will develop new programs and services to enhance our reach to the multitude of workers in the industry. There is a lot to be done, but fortunately MBI members have proven time and again up to the task. And this is why we all should be very excited to see how the next chapter in MBI’s story is written.

In closing, the MBI Board of Directors and staff are so appreciative of your involvement with this Association and we are very excited about the new offerings that will be available to members this coming year. As we once again end the year with a new membership level (the most in our 112 year history) MBI is poised to elevate member engagement and enhance its value proposition. We can’t wait to get started!

On behalf of all of us at MBI, we thank you for your membership.
